The Lord is baptizing us in Assurance of His love for us, that we can guard against unbelief that makes us unresponsive.
Unbelief is not usually against the existence of God, but the belief that God cares and is not concerned for us.
This is a lie, because He loves us so much and He cares for us greatly.
